Danish counter-attacks

The islamic boycot of Danish goods, and the cyber attacks on Danish media over the weekend are not eliciting a response from the general population. On one hand, there is a cyber-counterattack brewing (Jyllands-Posten):

Chain-mail suggests attack on arab media

A Danish chain-mail that is circulating by email urges people to take part in a web-based attack on arab media. This happens in reaction to the hacker-attack on Danish papersĀ“ websites over the weekend.

The affair about the Mohammed-drawings of the paper Jyllands-Posten has now set off a hacker-war on the internet. Over the weekend several Danish papersĀ“ web-versions, among them Jyllands-Posten, were attacked by hackers, and speculation has been rife, that the drawings might be the reason for the attack. Now a Danish chain-mail spreading via email urges to take part in a counter-attack on arab media.

The email starts out with the headline "Denmark under attack by moslem hackers" and contains an attached program, that starts a so-called denial-of-service attack on five arab media, among them Al-Jazeera, Arab News og Gulf News.

In the letter the recipient is urged to let the program run on his computer to bombard the arab media with data and thus block their homepages.

The Danish security firm CSIS explains that they received the first notifications about the mail sunday evening.

"If the user sends the email on - and accepts that the script is being run, then his computer is taking part in a targetted denial-of-service attack on several media in the arab world. An action, that can contribute enormously to the already heated situation," says Peter Kruse, virus analyst at CSIS.

He suggests that people erase the email right away, and says that his company has notified the Danish police, that currently is investigating the case.

At the same time, oppinion pages are full of demands for a boycot of the gas station chain Q8 (its Kuwaiti-owned), and there is a general consumer boycott of moslem businesses being urged by text messages. Two versions are known to me, and they read as follows:

This text message urges everybody to boycot the moslem-owned pizzarias and kiosks in Denmark. It is the same thing they do to our Danish companies, all because of a measely drawing in a paper. Send this text message to everybody you know.

and

Moslems are boycotting Danish goods because of satirical drawings. Soon Donald Duck will have to wear pants and Daisy a veil. Let us christians boycot moslem vegetable sellers, pizza-bakers and taxi-chauffeurs in Denmark. Pass this text message on if you agree.

The sender of the latter message is an atheist.

Screen caps soon.

Good for the Danes! Boycott muslim businesses--give them a taste of their own medicine.

Why is oil-rich Norway apologizing for running the cartoons? AND recognizing Hamas as a legitimate government when they have no intentions of changing their behavior toward Israel?

Hey Heather

You asked me a couple days ago whether I could translate something for you. Problem is, the link you asked about is offline.

Any other link with the stuff you need?

I picked you up at Jihad Watch.

We're concerned around the world about Denmark's response to the attacks on free speech and citizens' private rights. This is not entirely a Danish or Norwegian concern, given that we are interconnected by culture, commerce, and history, united by a number of shared values, one of which is our commitment to free speech and freedom of the press. Oslo, Norway is not Berkely, California, but there is a commonality of freedom if not to the same degree. The European ground of freedom is connected to the ground of the rest of the world. "No nation is an island entire of itself; every nation is a part of the continent," to paraphrase Donne.

That's my expression of solidarity. Further, I post cartoons of Mohammed. I urge you and your readers to download them, to spread them arcoss the world till there is no Denmark or Norway to focus on but only the free world for Muslims to rage at.

We have some variety of graphics available, one of my favorites from Derek in Manhattan. Thomas the Wraith has a lovely piece of work depicting Mohammed's feminine side. We'll keep posting and spreading graphics till the Islamic world bursts or busts. Please feel free to help yourselves.

It would be great to boycott Mahometan products, but when was the last time you saw one?

Do any of you have a single item in your homes that was made anywhere from Morocco to Malaysia?

If you would like to support Denmark, here is an article that shows one way to do this:

"BUY DANISH" ASK MY DANISH FRIENDS/ UPDATE

Please add any other legitimate links you know about.

Cato the Elder,

I used to buy many items from a company called Novica. I thought it was a great idea. Help support poor indigenous artists with a fairly priced piece of art and get something beautiful in return. This was prior to their sponsorship by National Geographic.

I bought several items--a beautiful carving of a woman and her child from an artisan in Sudan. A mask from the talented artists on the Indonesian island of Lombok, and other pieces of art from muslim and other countries.

There are many places to buy items like this such as Pier One Imports, World Market, and even Target. I still have some Moroccan items purchased while in high school, two plus decades ago. I think I got these from a Lillian Vernon catalog.

I stopped buying things from Muslim countries after 9/11. Sad to say, I had no idea that my purchases could potentially be used to fund terrorism.

If you really want to boycott Muslim products/enterprise, do a Google search to find all the Saudi or other (majority owned) "American" companies.

Here's one small example you may already be familiar with:

I posted a list with Danish items that should be easy to find in the U.S., (the HNN list plus some others) as well as several online sources for Danish products: Support Free Speech-- BUY DANISH!
It is important that we start to buy some of these things ASAP, and let others know by posting lists (specific things people can buy) on blogs, and sending out by email.

mje,

Many US citizens DO support Denmark and the Danish people. We are buying products from Denmark to show our support.

I saw this article today, it is good news, Denmark is not alone:

EU backs Denmark in caricature dispute

Freedom loving people all over the world have the greatest admiration for your Prime Minister and the Danish people.
